The Nothing Phone (2a) presents a clear hardware proposition: a large 6.7-inch AMOLED display, 5G connectivity, a 5000mAh battery and a three-camera arrangement led by two 50MP sensors. It is a specification-led smartphone designed to make the everyday essentials feel substantial, while accepting a few tangible compromises in construction and charging convenience.
Screen and platform
The display is one of the strongest elements on paper. Its 1080x2412 resolution gives the 6.7-inch panel a detailed foundation, while the 120Hz refresh rate should support fluid motion in compatible interface content. A quoted peak brightness of 1300 nits also provides considerable brightness headroom as a technical specification. The AMOLED panel gives the phone a modern display architecture without relying on a more basic screen type.
Underneath, the MediaTek Dimensity 7200 Pro uses an octa-core CPU reaching 2.8GHz and an Arm Mali-G610 MC4 GPU. Those figures describe a contemporary mobile platform intended to provide a broad foundation for smartphone tasks, while integrated 5G keeps the connectivity specification current. Nothing OS 2.5 is the named software platform, with 8GB or 12GB of RAM and 128GB or 256GB of storage completing the principal configurations.
Cameras and power
The camera specification is versatile in its layout. A 50MP main camera with an f/1.9 aperture and optical image stabilisation is joined by a 50MP ultrawide camera, giving the phone two distinct rear-camera roles rather than a single high-resolution sensor.
Power is another clear priority. The 5000mAh battery is paired with 45W charging, and the manufacturer’s stated 50-per-cent charging figure is 23 minutes. That combination should give the phone a strong technical basis for reducing charging interruptions, though it does not include wireless charging.
Practical compromises
The construction specification is deliberately straightforward: Gorilla Glass 5 covers the front, while the frame and back are plastic. That should keep the material choice practical, but it does not present the same premium material proposition as a handset specified with glass or metal throughout. At 190g and 8.55mm thick, the phone is also physically substantial, a direct consideration for buyers prioritising a lighter or slimmer design.
