The TCL 20 R 5G is a practical 5G smartphone built around a large display, a sizeable battery and a broad, if modestly specified, camera arrangement.
Everyday foundations
Its MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset brings an eight-core CPU with a maximum frequency of 2.2GHz, alongside an ARM G57 MC2 GPU. Those figures establish a contemporary hardware platform on paper, while the inclusion of 5G gives the phone a clear connectivity role beyond basic 4G use. The operating system is TCL UI 3.0 based on Android 11, providing a defined software foundation for the device.
The 6.52-inch screen has a 90Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness figure of 500 nits. The refresh-rate specification gives the panel technical foundations for smoother motion, while the brightness figure provides a clear reference for its illumination capability. However, its 720x1600 resolution is spread across that relatively large surface, making the display specification one of the phone’s more restrained areas.
Battery and physical design
A 4,500mAh battery is specified for up to 10 hours of video playback. That combination should make battery capacity a central part of the TCL’s appeal, particularly for buyers who value a substantial power reserve in the specification sheet. Charging is rated at 15W, however, so the phone’s battery provision is paired with a deliberately measured charging rate rather than a high-wattage system.
The handset weighs 186g and measures 8.99mm thick. Those figures place a meaningful amount of hardware into a conventional smartphone body, with the physical dimensions forming a clear trade-off against the stated battery capacity. It is available in Lazurite Blue and Granite Grey, giving buyers two specified colour options.
Camera scope, not camera excess
The rear system combines a 13MP main camera with 2MP ultrawide and 2MP telephoto cameras. This gives the phone three defined rear-camera roles, covering a main perspective as well as wider and telephoto viewpoints. The secondary cameras’ 2MP resolutions are limited, though, so the arrangement offers breadth of lens roles rather than high recorded resolution across every camera.
An 8MP front camera handles selfies and video-call duties on paper. Storage is offered in 64GB and 128GB capacities, with 4GB of RAM specified. Together, those choices position the TCL 20 R 5G as a functional all-rounder.
